About Sweet Whimsy ShopIn 2012, Becca Aronowitz left her career as a middle school teacher to begin making cake pops "full-time." With a degree in Art Education and a copy of Angie Dudley's book Cake Pops, Becca launched "Sweet Whimsy Shop" as an online store on Etsy. Since the inception of Sweet Whimsy Shop, Becca has maintained a strong commitment to quality in both look and taste. For that reason, she bakes everything from scratch (instead of using boxed cake mixes and canned frostings). The cake pops begin as a fully-baked sheet cake (made from flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, vanilla, baking powder, and salt....and a few other ingredients, depending on the flavor). Once the baked cake cools, it is crumbled and then mixed with a from-scratch frosting. The cake & frosting combo forms a pliable mixture that is sculpted or rolled into the basic shape of the cake pop. That mini sculpture of "cake dough" is then placed on a lollipop stick, and carefully dipped into melted chocolate or candy coating. Depending on the design, decorations like sprinkles, sanding sugar, or candies, are added while the chocolate is still warm/unset. For other designs, the decorations or details are added after the chocolate has hardened/cooled. Melted chocolate is used to pipe details, in the same way a cake decorator might use a pastry bag to pipe icing designs on cakes.
Regardless of how each cake pop is decorated, the result is the same: a tiny, tasty, handmade piece of art. Sweet Whimsy's cakes pops are not made by a mass-production, or mechanized process. There is no electric cake pop maker involved, or a cake ball-shaped baking pan. And, boxed cake mixes and canned frosting are never used. The chosen process is much more labor-intensive, with a greater commitment to quality, and with careful attention to detail. Sweet Whimsy Shop's clients value that kind of quality and recognize that they are getting so much more than "just" a cake pop. Becca loves what she does, takes a lot of pride in the process and quality, and is so very grateful for her faithful clients who support the craft and business! Becca has worked with a range of clients from various industries, for everything from simple birthday parties, to beautiful weddings, to elaborate corporate client-entertaining events. She has made cake pops for Gulfstream, SCAD, SAV airport, AT&T, SportClips, Southwest Airlines, and Silver Airways. Noteworthy clients include Jamie & Brooke Deen, and The Late, Late, Show with James Corden - for their hosting of the British boy band One Direction.
